Tomas Breffitt

Thats my name, and thats me. I am from the Toronto area, but I have lived most my life here in Ottawa. I was placed in music lessons really young because my parents thought I could be their muscial genius, but really, I wasn't very good. My parents continued to push this on me, through a move to ottawa, with new instruments and teachers. As I grew up, in school, I excelled in math and science, so my parents had a new plan for my life because of it. To them, I was going to be an engineer or a research scientist, but nothing they liked interested me, but I still followed those paths as I was told. I didn't enjoy studying these things and knew it wasn't for me, but that didn't matter to my parents.

All this changed in the summer after grade nine. I was volunteering at a skateboarding day camp, a sport I had picked up in my spare time, and I was handed a camera and asked to take pictures. From that week on, I have completely changed the direction of a future career. I absolutely loved photography and learned as much as I could, all the while continuously snapping picture after picture. With a change of schools, I was able to take different kinds of courses, including computer graphics and broadcasting technologies. These two subjects helped me realise exactly what I wanted to do. I could combine the visual arts of my photography and my love of technology to reach masses through design, perfect.

I am now studying Interactive Multimedia and Design through Carleton University and Algonquin College. "What does that mean?" is a question I get alot, so basically, "it is web development and graphic design through the use of computers." is what I tell people. I really like what I am studying and can't wait to get out into the real world and doing these things full time. Until then, and even then, I am always excited for what tomorrow brings, I don't know what is to come, but I know it will be good.
